Social Media Guidelines from DECD

I have a few questions so far about this document.
It says it is ok to mention name of school in text, which raises the question about visual logos and photos. And yet in another section it says it is ok to photograph students in uniform. I find this a bit confusing.

Also – with today’s notion of a seamless curriculum, and more students being encouraged to bring skills they have developed outside of school into the classroom, it seems strange to:
* firstly give each child an email address which has first and last name indicated,
* and then state that students should be encouraged to use their school email only for school related matters.

Answer:
It all comes down to informed parent consent.
As long as the parent agrees to:
name
image
work
video
internet publishing
then it is ok.
Standard consent form can be found at:

    Hi Daniela,

I was forwarded a copy of your recent blog post on the DECD social media guidelines and would like to provide a response to the queries you raised.

Mentioning the school name in text is in reference to identifying students through photos etc.

There are 3 pieces of information which can be used to identify a student and only 2 out of the 3 should be used together when using developing promotional materials, newsletters etc.

    student’s name
    student’s school
    student’s image

Parental consent to use images of student and/or their names is also required.

You are free to use photos and/or logos to promote the school as long as there are no students appearing in those images.

In regards to your second query I’m not sure I understand what your concern is about students using school specific email addresses for school related-activities.

Was this something you found in a DECD or school policy/guideline? I’d be happy to respond if you can please clarify what your concerns are.
